In Colombia there have been two private TV channels for six years. These channels, Caracol and RCN, belong to Carlos Àrdila Lulle and Julio Santodomingo, who are great businessmen in this country. Caracol and RCN have been competing in order to have the best ratings. The competition between these channels is due to different issues such as kind of programs and presenters and actors. Quiz shows, soap operas, chat shows and reality shows are the most important factor to compete. Each channel has always wanted to have the best product in the Colombian TV. In the following lines I will speak about how is competition between these two channels and disadvantages this competition.

This competition is not for quality but for quantity. For example, in each channel there are approximately fifteen programs in all day, the 90% of these programs are soap operas and other 20% are news reports and reality shows. Another example of little quality are the RCN news reports, which have show business, sports and financial sections. They last one hour and a half, unfortunately the show business section that before lasted fifteen minutes now lasts thirty minutes which means that the main stories only last twenty minutes. Instead of programs of quiality only there is one in the whole private television, it is "El mundo según Pirry", it has quality in his contents, in his images, in his reports, etc. this program show different places and cultures of enterteining and impact way, the most beautiful are mean character who are people have incredible and sometimes sad stories, besides "el mundo según Pirry" is a program with that majority of the audience feel identified.

the principal disadvantage of this competition in the Colombian television is that people haven´t got the opportunity to choose good programs. First, RCN and Caracol haven´t documentaries and interviews programs in their programmes because they think that people like soap operas and reality shows , for that reason, they have just dedicated to make these kinds of programs, besides because it is what produces a lot money and make them successful, Second, each channel at night presents six soap operas and when a soap opera doesn´t have rating they remove it of their programmes and other soap opera is presented but they never change them into programs with good content for example, the soap opera "floricienta" began at 8 a.m how this hasn´t succesful then they put at 6 a.m and replaced it by another soap opera: "La Hija del Mariachi" and third, the programs that can entertain to people as " día a día " or "muy buenos dias" they have become ridiculous, burlesque and without content.

The televisions in Colombia doesn´t contribute to the education of the Colombians. The majority of programs of RCN and Caracol show violence, infidelity and physical mistreatment. People learn about these behaviors and not about the respect, the confidence, the collaboration, etc. An example of the previous thing is "Nada más que la verdad", a reality show of the Caracol Channel where people are earning money for reveal all their acts of infidelity, their hatreds, their revenges, etc. Also, now this channels doesn´t worry them that in their soap operas say rude words but what they doesn´t think that children can learn it and that this will harm their relationship in a future, for example, in the soap opera "Pura Sangre" in a the his chapters the main character said a rude word to his friends with spontaneity, maybe many children thought that it was a good way of speak with their friends.

In conclusion, RCN and Caracol, the private channels of television in colombia aren´t good because it doesn´t educate, it has many contents but without quality. For they are not important educate but to earn money, not to be a media to teach but to entertain, beacuse of I think that the Colombians should demand, to private channels, quality in information and programs. I hope that with the third channel will be better than RCN and Caracol, therefore, these channels will feel forced to change their content and to give quality to people because the competition won´t be easy.
